The Horse Feathers should have your attention. There is much to appreciate when an artist can inhabit the line of absolute unique. There are many who do, and we try to stress that point within each years lineup at Pickathon. A big part of how we are and what we do is the locale of the festival here in the Pacific Northwest. Simply put, we are fortunate. One of such fortunes is a returning favorite from 2007 - Horse Feathers.
Anyway, the main point here today is that this most recent live session posted over at Hearya is yet another example to support the idea that these folks will continue to gain a lot of attention.
Check out the video version of Heathen's Kiss below, and for ... + More

| The Latest from the Freight Hoppers... The Freight Hoppers are true-blue old time revivalists. No other group has amassed as much recognition, or stood the true test of 'old' time. While many others over the past 20 years have come and gone, The Freight Hoppers have managed to keep the spark alive (with some breaks here and there). Frank Lee and David Bass are treasures of knowledge with the old time banjo and fiddle that will be certain to bring down the Barn in a mass of flames. No one out there has ever been able to emulate this pairing..
Today we are pleased to introduce new tunes of theirs via the Pickathon Playlists. Off ... + More

| Opbmusic.org We thought this being June and all it would be a fine time to begin the introductions to you from our 2009 Sponsors.
A small and concentrated piece of the OPB puzzle, Jeremy Peterson and David Christensen at opbmusic.org have developed a truly unique Northwest voice that we feel will continue to evolve and adapt this idea of music as a regional voice, and the overall diverse scene that is developed. For those that listen to opbmusic.org, way to go, you obviously know what we are talking about. For those that this is something new we suggest you hop on over and give it a try. You may find yourself immersed in new music, with a great deal from the ... + More

Street Teams? Vendors? Here we are, yet another week at the 'ol Pickathon HQ. We have a couple thoughts to get out, in hopes of helping us out come Pickathon Weekend.
1st. Pickathon Coffee Vendors - I am making a call for good Portland based Coffee Vendors. Know any that you favor? Know someone that would be a great fit? Here in Portland folks are used to good, strong, local coffee, 'nuff said. We have a few potential options, however - we just want to make sure we nail this in 2009 and maybe the public can be of assistance...after all, you are the ones working through the early A.M. lines (or not!).
2nd. Pickathon "Meat" Vendors - Another call for folks who do a good job at getting their meat out there for consumption. Ideally, this person would also ... + More

| Why we like the Wiyos. There is usually something funny about a group of musicians that consider Brooklyn, NY their home. With the Wiyos it's a little bit swing, a tad bit vaudeville, a lot of talent, and now a dash of electricity that have brought the band a long way since their inception 5 years ago. Most recent addition (as in the last two years) would be no stranger to Pickathon, Ted Weber (of The Hunger Mountain Boys fame). As you will see from the video, the band can do it all - and when the four of them are together onstage you can see that they have put a lot of time and thought into their show and sound. We get our fair share of the band for multiple sets and workshops on both Friday and Saturday ... + More

| The Avett Brothers + 5/22-23 Crystal Ballroom = Only 350 Tickets Available! This will be the last big exhale in regards to these shows, the week has finally reached its end and as I sit here and mull over my thoughts I am staring over at a stack of just 350 tickets that remain between both nights for this Friday and Saturday (5/22-23). This means that so far we have seen more than 2,500 tickets leave the nest over the past few months and it has been a real treat to see them off.
Once more, we are also pleased to tell everyone that Jason Webley will be support for both shows...maybe some of you folks remember him from 2007 Pickathon?.. The Drinking Song?... Spinning around with your finger in the air?... any of this ringing a bell?
Anyway, just another reminder here ... + More
