| Long-time friends and Pickathon supporters John Brown Lutherie have decided to partner up in 2009 and send one lucky soul home from Pickathon weekend with a brand new, custom, locally built guitar. This will be a raffle, with tickets being available during the weekend of Pickathon only. Winner will be announced on Sunday evening prior to the final set on the Mountain View Stage.
Since this will be a totally custom, Pickathon unique guitar, we will be keeping you updated as the next 8 weeks roll along on the status.
Here are the dirty little details about this beautiful instrument, strait from the makers mouth:
The "Traditional" is the flagship of John Brown Lutherie. A 14-fret dreadnought body shape that brings a tonal richness and clarity, as well as volume and power. This model represents a tribute to the most popular guitar design found in the American tradition of steel string guitars. Specifically designed for individuals wanting rich vocal backing or flatpickers that want the power and tone only available in traditionally designed dreadnought. This particular model is rosewood back and sides with a sitka spruce top. The details, including forward scalloped x-brace, 1-3/4 nut, ivroid binding and herringbone trim are reminiscent of vintage Martin D-28 guitars.
In addition to the specs above we are also currently working on special inlays that would be reflective of the 2009 Pickathon. Details on this will continue to pour in and we will be sure to keep you posted. A true one-of-a-kind, locally built guitar that is sure to make even the most novice guitar players smile.
